Living with intention starts (and ends) with being authentically you--being who you cannot not be. It's about living your best life by creating the life you want, rather than wandering aimlessly through life and letting it happen to you. What brings you joy? What matters to you? What is your heart's desire?
Living Intentionally is designing a life in which you consciously live according to your soul's desires. I define it as different from Living with Purpose, in which you pursue a life based on discovering your passion and achieving goals--focused primarily on what you do. Living Intentionally is much more about being than doing, because we are human beings, not human doings. Our sole (& soul) purpose in life is to be our authentic selves. That is where the magic lives.
So, first and foremost, be authentically you. You cannot really be anyone but who you are, though we have learned that there is a right way and a not-so-right or even wrong way to be, and we spend an inordinate amount of our lives suppressing our true selves and trying to be someone else. I began writing this blog in my 60s, because I lived an entire lifetime resisting becoming my authentic self.
If you want to be your authentic self, I suggest:
DO:
Stop living according to others' expectations of you.
Stop worrying what people think about you.
Stop trying to meet other peoples' needs rather than your own.
Stop doing what other people are doing just because other people are doing it.
Stop comparing yourself and your life and your achievements to anyone else's.
Stop trying to keep up with your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers, or anyone else.
Stop doing anything that is not in alignment with your values.
Stop being a prisoner of your pursuit of money and status.
Stop thinking you have to have the final destination in mind when you begin a journey.
Stop burying who you are under all of these burdens.
DO:
Start trusting your gut, your intuition.
Start leading with your heart.
Start accepting that you have the power to make choices.
Start making the decision every day to live the life you want.
Start being true to yourself, being honest, and doing what feels right for you.
Can you already feel the freedom this can provide? It's way more difficult to be someone you are not than to be your true self. It can be difficult, however, to give yourself permission to be that authentic you. Do you see the absurdity of this? It's a grand joke. See the joke. Laugh about it. And start being you.
Intentional living is not about setting a goal and declaring victory when you reach it. There is no finish line. It is about being your authentic self every day. Realize that your true nature is infinite love and that all these other humans are just an extension of that same expansive awareness, which is love. They've just gotten caught up in the egoic story of human existence. Drop the ego and you become your highest self. You are the only one holding your true self back.
Create your own story. Follow your own arrow. And let your light be the brightest star in the sky.
Life is about liberation, life is not about control. Open the door, break boundaries, be who you are. That is the entire purpose of life. Right now, something within you is looking to be boundless.

Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you want to become. Everything else is secondary.

"If you look to others for fulfillment,
you will never truly be fulfilled.
If your happiness depends on money,
you will never be happy with yourself.
Be content with what you have;
rejoice in the way things are.
When you realize there is nothing lacking,
the whole world belongs to you."
- from Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, as translated by Stephen Mitchell
